Boost Your Weight Loss with These 5 Simple Tricks
The late, great Tom Petty was pretty much on target when he sang “the waiting is the hardest part.” With that sentiment in mind, here are five of my favorite tricks to boost your weight loss more quickly.
This is easy to do once you get used to it. There are many versions. I prefer something easy to follow such as eating all of your meals within an 8-hour time period. Not a breakfast person? Wait until noon to eat your first meal and then don’t eat anything after 8 p.m. The theory is that your body will have a break from digesting food and use this energy for repairing and burning fat. It doesn’t matter about the time you eat; it just needs to be all done within an 8-hour time period.
Get most of your carbohydrates from vegetables
This will reduce your overall calories. Vegetables are high in fiber and water, so they will fill you up faster. They won’t impact your blood sugar which will help reduce your cravings. It will help your body eliminate waste and keep you regular. My members tell me they feel so much better when they do this. It’s good for the mind and body.
Increase steps to 10,000 per day
When you increase movement, it usually kick-starts weight loss. Walking 10,000 steps per day is excellent because it means you’re in motion throughout the day. You are spiking your metabolism by increasing movement in intervals. I can’t tell you how many times people have reported not gaining weight after a vacation which involved a lot of walking.
Increase your protein intake
Protein needs to be part of every meal and snack. It doesn’t spike your blood sugar, builds muscle and satisfies hunger. I personally use a 2:1 ratio of protein to carbs when I want to boost weight loss. That means for lunch I will have 28 grams of protein (that might equate to one chicken breast) and 14 grams of carbs (think salad, veggies and yogurt dressing). This combo not only tastes good, but also works!
Stick to your food plan
This one is big! It is the deal breaker, my friends. The best way to boost weight loss is to eat food that will feed your body nutritionally. Once you adopt the right food plan for your body, your body will return to a healthy weight. If you don’t plan well or don’t stick with your plan you tend to eat foods that provide empty calories. This approach will spiral out of control and you will struggle. Sticking to your food plan will result in weight loss. Focus on how good you will feel the next day when your jeans are loose and that just might give you the nudge you need to stick with the plan.
