Eat Your Way to a Healthier Weight
A registered dietitian with a master’s degree in Nutritional Science, Rachel Beller founded the Beller Nutritional Institute in Beverly Hills, served as nutritionist for The Biggest Loser, and was the go-to nutrition expert for Glamour magazine.
The author of Eat to Lose, Eat to Win obviously knows a thing or two about healthy eating and weight loss. Her “Grab-n-Go Action Plan for a Slimmer, Healthier You” was published by HarperCollins and remains a go-to book for anyone wanting to change their eating style for better health and fewer pounds.
Beller has graciously answered a few insightful questions involving weight loss and dieting.
Why do you think Eat to Lose, Eat to Win remains popular when compared to the “flavor of the month” diet books churned out by celebrities and nutrition experts?
There’s no fad diet. Eat to Lose, Eat to Win provides a simple step-by-step weight loss action plan that can easily be incorporated into everyday life. It provides recipes, shopping lists, my signature “Food Autopsy” alerts and will forever change the way people think about what they put into their body.
What can the average overweight or obese person do to reverse the trend and live a longer, healthier life?
It’s all about finding a realistic solution to fit your lifestyle. Losing weight is simple when you stop overcomplicating or buying into things like juice cleanses, meal deliveries or cutting certain food groups for the sake of losing weight. These are short-term solutions and the goal is to get on (and stay on) an easy-to-follow action plan that helps you shed pounds and feel your amazing best.
Eat to Lose, Eat to Win offers easy tips for dining out, smart snacking and cooking at home. It also details the science behind the secrets since having a strong knowledge about what you are putting into your body is key. It also allows you to find an action plan that works for you and your lifestyle.
When people think of “The F Word” they think of an off-color comment; what’s your favorite “F word” and why is it so important to my health and weight?
My favorite F-word is Fiber, of course! It’s like a spa for your insides because in addition to making you feel satisfied and preventing overeating, it delivers your daily dose of detox. I recommend 30-35 grams of fiber a day and provide an “AM Fiber Insurance” strategy to make it easy.
You’ve become known as “America’s Get-Real Nutritionist” – nice title, but what does it mean and why should the average Joe care what you say about food and weight?
I totally get it and have been able to lose weight and keep it off myself. In other words, I’ve been there, done that and am able to connect with individuals in a realistic way. In addition to working with celebrities and reality show contestants, I see patients daily. My clients include men, women, teenagers, college students, and breast cancer survivors. I offer “get real” advice and incredibly effective nutritional action plans specific to their individual needs. My mantra: keep it simple and they will succeed.
How will your advice change me and my diet?
I give science-based advice that emphasizes not what you can’t eat, but what you SHOULD eat. I provide skinny solutions for weight loss and optimal health in my friendly, but firm style.
Finally, what exactly is the “Flip-It Method” and why should I flip for it?
Take whatever you think about meals and turn it upside down. Think veggies first, lean protein next with a touch of healthy fat, and lastly a modest serving of complex carbs. You will flip for it because there’s no counting calories, weighing portions or having to entirely give up the foods you love. It’s a three-step strategy that makes eating in and out a no brainer.
